Zombies, Run!

Sometimes change is good. It can make you think about the things you want to do with your time, and I've been doing a fair bit of thinking of late.

I've started running again, only in the last week, but it's something I really used to enjoy doing and every time I've been out (3 times!) I've come home totally flailing on the endorphins. It's great.

Part of my problem is that I'm terrible at pacing myself and always end up going too fast at the start and then struggling and not having fun for the rest of it. What's helping me at the moment is the AMAZING Zombies, Run! Couch to 5K app for my iPod. I've only done 3 missions so far, the introduction one, and then the first two proper missions, but I'm really, really enjoying it.

It's really helpful to be told when I should be running and when I should be walking, and that if I need to walk, it's OK! Plus, the horrifying sounds of the walking dead coming after you is a wonderful motivator!

Running in Autumn has thrown up its own challenges, namely, I have zero clue what kit I need. Fortunately the twin resources of Ravelry and Facebook have come into their own here, so I've got my running tights, Asics long-sleeved top, Shock-Absorber bra and Mountain Life windcheater. I feel like a complete and utter tit, especially when it's topped with a fleece headband to keep my ears warm (which I didn't realise I needed, but holy crap, toasty ears are the best. thing. ever.), but I'm warm, dry and comfortable, so I'll live.

I think the main thing I need is a decent pair of trainers/trail shoes, the last thing I want is to fuck up my knees and ankles at this age. The jargon online is very, very confusing, so I think I'll be hitting Tiso's when I get back to Glasgow to have a proper chat with someone who knows what they're talking about. Seeing as I have 5 fewer Christmas presents to buy this year, I think I know what I'll be spending that money on!

Three more nights in Lancaster to go. Bring on the future, because it's starting to look pretty exciting!

My knees are so wrecked that I can't do the running thing. I walk but my apps always make me feel bad because I'm so slow.

I think as long as you're outside doing something, you should be proud of what you're achieving.
