Thoughts on running and losing my mind.

I'm still running, dear reader, and enjoying it immensely. It's part of my life now, so blogging about it seems a bit OTT. Doing intervals and working my distance up to about 16km, and I'm pretty damn proud of my body and what it can do. Apart from when it gets blisters on the arch of both feet, then I despair a little.

However, seeing as the UK is in the grip of its first actual heatwave in 7 years, doing distance running seems a little bit silly and liable to lead to death and more comedy sunburn (yes, more comedy sunburn), so to sate the Blerch I'm doing 6km (two laps of Kelvingrove Park) at least 6 days in every 7. I've done 5 days so far, and I'm currently wondering if I'm losing my marbles.

Proof that I'm not right in the head.

1. There is a big, bastard of a hill at the end of the route (or half way round, if you've only done one lap). I run up it thinking "What the fuck am I doing? This is madness! Look, grass! You could lie down, have a nap. It'd be awesome." and then I get to the top and start going down the other side and all of that is drowned out with "WHEE THIS IS SO FUN THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER OH MY GOD YAY!". And I do this twice every time I run.

2. It's hot in the UK at the moment, really hot, 27 degrees is forecast for today. This is both awesome, because summer has kind of passed the UK by in recent years and terrifying because we have no clue how to deal with this kind of weather. The Met Office have issued a Level 3 Warning because people are dying. I'm sweating just sitting here typing this. I spend each run seeking as much shade as possible and trying not to eat midges in the process. Yet I keep putting my trainers on and going outside in it.

3. I have to get up early to go running this week because I'm working later shifts. I have to get up extra-early to go for a run and allow an hour to cool the fuck down, because did I mention that it was hot?

4. Because of ALL THE RUNNING, I need to buy another pair of running shorts. This is my treat for the month this payday, and I'm actually looking forward to getting them.

5. In spite of all of these reasons, I'm going running tomorrow, and the next day, and probably the day after that. I've set a goal on MapMyRun that I want to run on 28 days between the 12th of July and the 12th of August.

So there we have it. Send help, or Powerade.
