I was doing so well on the old blog front, and then it seems I got too bloody busy to sit on my bum and type for any length of time. I suppose it's as good an evening as any to do some catching up.
My friend moved to Jersey today, so I'm feeling a little sad. We've gotten a bit closer since I've moved up, and I'm going to miss her very much. I'm looking forward to trips to visit her, but it's not the same as a cheeky pint at the 13th Note on a last-minute whim.
Some of the reason for the radio silence has been moving house, again. Yeah. Again. But this time it was in better circumstances, and to a better flat in an area I love dearly, with a big ginger cat and two very nice (and talkative!) flatmates. Said cat is currently snoozing (and snoring) on my bed, while I sit on my sofa. In moving to this new flat, I've been able to get all of my things out of storage too, so I'm surrounded by my books, furniture and photographs. Granted, when I moved it looked like this...
After several hours of work, 6 cups of tea and a few "Holy shit, I'd forgotten about that!" moments (and the fun of scrunching photos of EX-BASTARD that I'd missed in the initial purge into a ball for the cat to chase), it looked like this...
And since then the boxes have all found a home, I've got a cute sofa-bed under the mantlepiece and it feels like mine.
Since then, I've hung out with Bez (yeah, Bez).
Watched Mark Cavendish whizz past my window. Number 66 on the left, there.
Knitted like an absolute champion.
Needed a bit of help sorting my books out. Kelvinbridge SHELTER did really well out of the books that had an inscription in the front page from a certain someone. Do I need a reminder that he was a lying bag of dicks? No, I think not.
Encountered some bardly graffiti in town.
And applied for the Abu-Dhabi Science Festival.
I've also had to have a seriously long think about whether I can go to South Africa this year. Sadly, finances don't seem to want to allow it, but should I get to go to the ADSF, I can use that money towards it and have an EVEN MORE EPIC holiday than I would have had this year. Also, with my amazing pal being headhunted for big and bright things, I think it makes sense for everything to get settled before I head out there.
To that end, I'm still going on an adventure, dear reader. Just on a smaller scale. It's still a bit scary as it's my first holiday as a single lady, but equally, it's very, very exciting, because it's my first holiday as a single lady. I'm hopping on a cheap flight to Amsterdam in the last week in September, visiting people there and in Delft, before waving my passport and getting the train to Germany to see the bold Cassia. This time I won't have to worry about useless, last-minute, un-helpful asshats losing their passports, and will actually get to Germany. From there, I'll be heading to Prague by train, and enjoying a few days there before flying home. 10 days of adventure should set me up nicely, and then I can start topping up my savings account in preparation for South Africa.
Semi-organised adventuring is the only kind I know, I'm afraid, but it gets me places!
