Shiny!

New toys are always fun. ALWAYS.

Firstly, I am in love with these and want to have their light, well-fitting, decently cushioned babies.

Those are Asics Gel-Cumulus 14. They were expensive, but so very worth it. I got them from Run4it at Tisos, and the service there was impeccable. The lovely young lady who helped me did everything. I had my gait analysed, my foot measured, she brought out box after box of shoes. Fantastic service, will definitely be going back there in a million years when I can afford to buy any more of these shoes.

I also treated myself to a new, warm running top. At the moment I'm wearing a vest, an Asics (I'm turning into a fangirl) long-dolman-sleeve effort and a windcheater. That's a lot of layers, and given that I'm usually having problems with the cold, rather than the wind, I needed something warmer. I have a sneaking suspicion that Sportsshoes.com have sold me a snowboarding mid-layer, but it's ideal. Long sleeves (even by my standards!), long in the body (ditto!), soft and with a cowl to stop draughts going down your front. LOVELY.

Still merrily running away. Now on week 7, and I have to skip. It's hysterical, but I now actually view the minute of running between 15 second bursts of skipping as "recovery" time. 3 months ago I'd have laughed in your face if you'd have said that I could manage that. The missions are now more running/skipping than walking (16 minutes of walking vs. half an hour of running over 45 minutes), but I'm not struggling with them so much any more. My new trainers did make my shins ache when I first went out in them, but I think that's more to do with adjusting for running in shoes with actual cushioning than anything else. Today was fine, although I'm noticing my calf muscles getting more of a work-out, but nothing painful.

In other news, come February's payday, I'll be buying my plane ticket to South Africa. And then I'll have 6 months to save up the pennies to spend on all sorts of Southern Hemispherical fun. EXCITED!
