Starting Over

I was knitting up a storm on my Snapdragon Tam but for some utterly inexplicable reason I started it, and got just under half-way through it, on 4mm needles as recommended in the pattern. Now, I have never completed anything other than toys and gloves on the recommended size of needles, I always have to go up a size or so to make sure things fit. So why didn't I do this on 4.5mm or even 5mm needles? I don't know, and that will always have to be a question that goes unanswered.

So I ripped out 35 rows of fiddly cables and restarted on 4.5mm needles (after getting gauge in stocking stitch, I didn't just go a bit mental) and now I'm over half-way and it's looking far more like it'll actually fit over my napper.
It doesn't look like much at the moment, but when it's stretched out the cables "pop" a lot more and it looks like less of a mess. The yarn (Fyberspates Scrumptious DK in Water) is so, so lovely when knitted up, but is annoyingly splitty to actually knit and I really struggled to frog the first attempt because I'd knitted bits of loose wool into the stitches and it wouldn't come apart. Oh well, hopefully I won't have to do that again and I will just have to suffer the agonies of wearing a really well-designed hat knitted up in a luxury yarn.

Talking of yarn, I'm currently lusting after Jared Flood's Wool People and ALL OF THE WOOL to knit everything up with. The colours in his Shelter range are something else and I would happily knit something with each and every one.
In sadder news, the boy is off to India for a month and I'm going to miss him something rotten. I'll just have to keep knitting to keep myself distracted. Expect lots of posts about finished objects over the course of the next month!
