Kate Davies has gone and updated her o w l s pattern. Now, I love my o w l s jumper an awful lot. It's soft, long and very warm. It also makes me feel like a proper knitter, to be able to flounce about the place in handknits. There are a few things I would change however, to get gauge I had to go up a couple of needle sizes, from 6.5mm to 8mm. This has resulted in quite a loose fabric that drapes quite nicely but has grown quite a bit. It's still a lovely jumper, but the body and sleeves are longer than they used to be! What I'd like to do is knit it with the right sized needles, but make a bigger size. I'd end up with a jumper that fits, but the material would be a bit denser and the owls might have slightly better definition.
What I'm thinking is that I might knit it again, perhaps using some of this wool from New Lanark.
I'm not sure anyone actually reads this blog, but if you do, and you knit, chuck in your two cents!
I still feel rough, I managed to make it from my bed to the couch today though, and I haven't napped so will hopefully get a decent night's sleep tonight. I need to go into work tomorrow because I need the money, but I don't think I should be anywhere near customers or food. I'm hoping I'll either be on hawking (selling sweeties and drinks inside the screens) or floor (making sure screens are clean and the right people are in the right film). That way I can blow my nose when I need to, which is often!
I've been reading quite a bit the last couple of days. I finished A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage.
This was given to me by the bold Mackinnon and is really interesting. It's about how beer, wine, rum, tea, coffee and cola were pivotal in shaping the world we live in. Trufax.I started and finished Douglas Coupland's The Gum Thief in the space of a day.

It's very Coupland, it kind of chucks you in at the deep end with the various characters' neurosies straight away. Roger is a divorced, 40-something with a dead son and a dog called Wayne. Bethany is a fat Goth. They communicate through Roger's diary and his attempts at writing a book called Glove Pond.
I'm now working though Post Office by Charles Bukowski. I'm only 3 pages in and already he's humped a fat lass. Go Chinaski!
In terms of actual knitting (rather than hypothetical knitting) I'm not doing so well. I've nearly finished one of Nik's Knucks and I'm dreading starting on the other one. It's fine once you get onto the hand, but knitting the fingers is SO BORING AND FIDDLY. I have enough DK wool for a jumper (yay charity shop! 11 balls of wool/acrylic for £5.) and I know that I'm going to get horribly bored of it. I'll get a nice jumper out of it in the end, it'll be a bit finer than my Hiboux or Estelle, and I have knitted a cardi out of Kidsilk Haze so I know that it's do-able!
I'm going to watch Firefly, read some misanthropic ranting and try and get some kip. The good thing about the cinema job, well, one of the good things, is that I don't start till 5pm. I can get in a full day's work and have a decent lie-in, it works quite nicely.
