Gosh, I rather forgot about this, or rather, the only time I was sat at my computer was to do my bloomin' EPS 1 essay.
Anyway, excuses out of the way, I'm still training to be a teacher. I've never been more tired in my entire life, and that includes working at Acorn. I love it, and I know it's what I want to do (more than ever in fact), I'm just hoping I can get through the year in one piece.
I've had a jolly couple of months though, my nephew turned one. Which is both really big, and yet he's still really small. It's odd, but very very cool. He's turning into a proper cheeky chappy and I am bursting with pride at being able to say I'm his aunt.
I've started my school placement, I'm teaching (occasionally) at a school in Saltaire, though on my first day they sent me to Shipley, which is 2 miles away. Teething troubles sorted, I'm finding myself champing at the bit to teach, but also being petrified that I'm patronising the year 9's and that I'm going to have to teach biology. I've done exactly 12 hours of biology, which were spent either poking dissected hearts, or giggling at Adam's anatomically correct (and ejaculating!) male reproductive system. I'm toast!
I've finally seen Ollie's digs in Lancaster, it was thoroughly weird to be back in halls, but his flatmates seem nice, and they're all postgrads. It's a funny wee uni, a bit of a celebration of concrete but they have a lecture theatre all kitted out to be a cinema, and some nice foody places. Plus it's all green, and Lancaster's quite cute (for all that I wasn't a fan after spending too long there...), so I'm happy for him. I hope he's going to enjoy himself.
Passed all my QTS skills tests, which means I'm literate, numerate and can use a computer (teehee at the last one...). I also couldn't be a qualified teacher without them, so glad I rattled through them. In fact, got thoroughly rattled after I passed them too! Had one of my first nights out since I went to Nottingham with Ollie, and damn, did I need it! It was nice to be sociable with the PGCE people, though they were mostly biologists. Though to be fair, the physicists are very willing to hit the pub too...
Handed my first essay in too, I get it back sometime next week, bit nervous. Hated writing it, I know social sciences are a big part of teaching, but again, it's a case of talking about it and not doing anything that was doing my head in. Celebrated the hell out of that too, spent 9 hours in the Library pub and was not a happy bunny the next morning. Still went in though, in fact, I haven't missed a day of uni until today, but more about that later.
Had a bit of a gig-fest this month, saw Less Than Jake last weekend with the boy. As per usual they were completely on form, and it was a cracker of a gig. Also, somewhere my 15 year-old self exploded with joy as I saw Rancid for the first time. I've been desperate to see them for about 10 years, and finally got to do so the week before. Bloomin' amazing, and worth the wait!
Had the lovely girlies up/down to visit. Had a rather fab evening in, well, Fab, where we people watched, nattered and had a bit of a boogie. Ash is now sporting flaming red hair, which suits her down to the ground, and Mindy is on top form as per usual! Got a couple of meet-ups planned for the New Year, so all very exciting.
Think that's us about up to date. Going to see the boy next weekend, there's talk of snowboarding/skiing lessons, thinking about swapping sports, which could be really quite funny. I think I'll spend a lot of time on my bum, snowboarding worries me!
So, ttfn!
